This week, the New Orleans area has experienced "Operation Catahoula Crunch".
ICE agents have been attempting to capture violent criminals, but news reports have shown American citizens and legal residents of Latin-American appearance being targeted. The Associated Press reports that most people detained have zero criminal record.
This has caused widespread fear and many community members are hiding at home. Work is being missed and so, many families are going to struggle financially.
Working with trusted Latino-focused non-profits, we are hoping to raise donations for direct-aid.
We will do this by an act of political theatre, selling tamales. These tamales will be donated by or purchased from local restaurants - pending the resturant's situation. Many local businesses are also reeling from the situation (As Ian McNulty has reported, "New Orleans area Hispanic restaurants need our help as immigration sweep begins"
donating is best, but if you want to volunteer, please reach out. We will need volunteers to pick up tamales and distribute them for donations :)
