Pineywoods Nurse of the Year Awards was an innovative approach to a large act of kindness by charitable organization, Elite Island Resorts, in response to a rural regional Hospice field worker trying to do something kind for her Hospice nurses who were overloaded with new patients in late summer 2022. 18 Trips were donated, and 15 Nurses in Hospital/Facility/Home Care categories were chosen based on nominations by their clinicians and leadership of their organizations, Award Ceremonies proceeded in early 2023 in multiple cities, gaining large publicity and even larger scales from corporate entities - all supportive and it has created a huge domino effect of retention aiding recognition and support programs that are continuing to spread throughout the Pineywoods region! Our Goal is to continue paving the way to renewed and improved nursing practices and partnerships in community health and within healthcare environments to be the change and be the support for our nurse heroes, many whom have said regardless of the trip - they hadn't received recognition or praise like this in 20+ years.
